HSB and HSL Come out of Hiding

Hue is the color created by mixing primary colors (Red, Blue, and Yellow). Saturation is a measure of how much white is mixed in with the color. A fully saturated color is vivid; a less saturated color is washed-out pastel. Luminosity is a measure of how much black is mixed with the color. A very bright color contains little or no black.” Steve Johnson with Andy Anderson, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 on Demand, 2008, P.67.

For years I’ve hunted a succinct explanation of the HSB (or HSL) color system. The above paragraph is priceless for its clarity. The “B” of HSB stands for "brightness" and is equivalent to the "L" of HSL.
